But King Hiranyakashyap wanted his son to worship him instead of Lord Vishnu. As his son did not agree with this, King tried to kill Prahlad. King’s sister Holika had a boon of never getting killed by fire, so he asked his sister to sit in the fire with Prahlad on her lap. But Prahlad was saved by lord Vishnu and Holikagot killed in the fire. Since then people celebrate Holi.

This festival falls on the full moon day i.e. Purnima of Phalgun month. Holika Dahan is done in the evening of the full moon day where people gather in front of the bonfire and pray that their internal evil is destroyed the way Holika was killed in the fire.  On the morning of the next day, people throw colors on each other. Children wait for this festival with lots of courage and happiness and start collecting colorful colors, balloons, buckets, pitchakris, etc to play Holi. They took some sticks, straws and co-dung cakes in the mid of crossroads and made a big heap for the ceremony of Holika Dahan. They get together at the place at night and set fire in the huge heap of sticks, straws and co-dung cakes to celebrate Holika Dahan. Women sing ceremonial songs during the Holika Dahan.
